Creativity is a complex phenomenon that encompasses multiple areas of knowledge. Defining creativity always implies originality and adaptation, but it is difficult to find a definition that adapts to all fields. The present research maintains that creativity, in relation to graphic design education, begins with the development of the creative thinking competence; which is developed through a design process in order to solve a problem, and is evidenced in the production of a functional graphic design piece or visual composition. When learning to compose visually, the design student exercises his creative thinking by developing this competence in such a way that he can give a creative, original and functional solution to a design assignment. This research allowed to highlight the development of the creative thinking competence from the visual composition and made it possible to describe the relationship between the two. And, from this, apply the pedagogical strategy of Project-Based Learning in favor of it; so that teachers improve their pedagogical practice through reflection on teacher mediation within the context of education in graphic design.
