The current investigation aims to undertake a systematic reading of the notion of the virtual in the Phenomenology of Perception of Merleau-Ponty, which has not been developed by this author, but rather this intends to be an original contribution. A systematic reading, with the purpose of recovering the true meaning of the virtual, which, for Merleau-Ponty, does not avoid the everyday present, but rather, on the contrary, gives the virtual its true dimension of existence. In this sense, the virtual, in terms of anticipated space, amplifies our perceptive horizons of sense that are exerted in the living present. Furthermore, it unveils the capacity of one's own body, that passing through its temporality it can produce a horizon of virtuality from its possible being. That is to say, from the I can of the body that constantly opens the infinite possibility to an expressive (gesture and word) and cultural world where I can do something. Finally, the virtual allows the understanding of distinct dimensions of what Merleau-Ponty calls existence: I) Perception as the opening to the world. II) The dimension of the other as possible for me. III) The fading of the world as virtual, as the fading of the other. IV) The word as the production of a common and inexhaustible world.
