The current investigation aims to explore the factors and processes through which political identification with leftist positions occurs in peruvian left wing militants. Taking into account aspects such as political cognition, political socialization and politicization dynamics, the life trajectories of these people are analyzed, identifying the experiences and environment in which they developed. These aspects are articulated through the construction of the link between these aspects occurs through the construction of identities through the personal experience with social structures and, indirectly, through political conversation. Likewise, attention is given to the weight of close interpersonal ties as sources of political conversations and formation of political identities, given its role as the origin of adopted political views and the involvement in political activism. This is done by analyzing twenty semi-structured interviews with people identified as members and former members of leftist organizations belonging to four different generations, these interviews were done between 2022 and 2023. The findings point out the importance of close relationships with politicized individuals in the adoption of leftist political preferences and political activism, as well influential experiences with social structures perceived as oppressive. We conclude that understand the adoption of political identities as a socially mediated process, subjected to interpersonal dynamics.
