This study describes the psychological well-being (PWB) of 32 adults between 18 and 58 years old who seek help in Counselling Services and assesses the link between PWB and demographic variables such as sex, age and educational level. Intentional sampling method was used on two Listening Centers related to a private university where participants were requested to complete Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scales. The scale has optimum criteria of validity and reliability (α=.922). An average PWB was found in overall and high scores in ‘self-acceptance’, ‘personal growth’ and ‘positive relations with others’. No statistically significant differences were found in overall PWB according to sociodemographic variables but differences were found by sex and age on two dimensions. Women score higher in ‘positive relations with others’, as other studies findings, and participants between 18 and 29 years old score higher in ‘autonomy’ compared to the group between 30 and 45 years old. This could be related to the emerging adulthood because they want to act differently to the expectations of their parents and older generations. The findings suggest people seeking help do not necessarily have below average PWB and, rather, the average score let them seek help to preserve or maximize their PWB.
