The research seeks to analyze the relationship between the didactic interaction and the use of time in the class session in teachers at public schools in Metropolitan Lima. The didactic interaction considers the effect that the teacher’s message causes on the student. In this way, the relevance of the mediating role of oral language in the teaching and learning processes is shown. The research is qualitative, focused on the case study. The collection of the information was obtained through filming. The analysis was carried out with the Atlas.ti software and a classroom interaction analysis system. The results showed that the shortest didactic interactions arise to establish the relationship and discipline in the classroom or to recover previous knowledge and can be directed to several students. While longer time interactions explore the student’s zone of proximal development (ZPD), and their attention is more limited, they cannot be directed to multiple students because they are not necessarily in the same zone of proximal development. In this sense, the duration of a didactic interaction will depend on the purpose of the teacher and the time available in the class session.
