The aim of this study was to analyze the social representations of the relationship between masculinity and partner violence among college students. This study has been conducted within a qualitative paradigm, focused on the socioconstructionist framework. 14 semi-structured interviews and a focus group were carried out with university students, both men and women between 20 and 27 years of age. The conception of masculinity was approached from a bio-psycho-social perspective, as well as the stereotypes and motives associated with violence towards the male partner. Among the most relevant results it was found that the conception of man in Peru is still governed by rigid stereotypes that links the masculine gender to being dominant, provider and cunning, while, the feminine gender is linked to the expression of emotions, associated with being fragile and dominated. From the participants’ perspective, this polarity is perceived as a problem of men in relationships and engenders in itself a possible motive of violence towards their same gender.
