This thesis addresses the problem of a zinc refinery, the research area focuses on the zinc concentrates roasting plant. Roasting has the low productivity problem of 28.41 TN / 100 $ (tons of calcine for every 100 $ in resources), not reaching the goal of 28.78 tons / 100 $. As a result of the evaluation of having a low productivity index, there are the following main causes: restricted plant production capacity, low plant availability, there is no autonomous operational maintenance, there is no preparation of order and cleaning in the plant, lack of routine inspection of outdated equipment and work methods; generating losses in the production of calcine, cost overruns of the resources used. The Kaizen tools used for the development of solutions to these problems were the implementation of oxygen in the furnace, standardization and automation in furnace control, autonomous operational maintenance of the furnace, application of SMED in boiler cleaning, implementation of the 5s in the plant and visual control Andon on dry electrofilters. With the implementation of the improvements, a total saving of $ 2,406,029 in resources is obtained, resulting in a 14% reduction in the cost of external calcine, a 58% reduction in the cost of fuel, and a 6% reduction in the cost of labor., a 30% reduction in the cost of inputs, a 59% increase in the 5s rate in roasting and a 15% reduction in the cost of reagents. Likewise, calcine production increases from 594,712.48 to 628,782.16 tons / year, thus obtaining an increase in calcine production of 5.7%. Improving the total productivity index from 28.41 to 28.89 TN / 100 $, reaching and improving the internal standard of the area of 28.78 tons / 100 $, where a total investment of $ 741,147.00 was necessary for all the improvements contemplated. With the results contemplated, it is shown that Kaizen tools are very useful to improve the productivity of the roasting area.
