This research aims to contribute to the literature with new evidence on agriculture in Peru and to evaluate the family farming system and non-family farming systems through economic and ecological approaches. The hypothesis is that family farming is more economically and ecologically efficient than non-family farming. To this end, the hypothesis is tested using the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) method applied by Batecce & Coelli (1995); in addition, the analysis of good agricultural practices used by each study group is carried out using the National Agricultural Survey (2016-2019) for the regions of Peru. Based on the results of this comparative analysis, it is evident that there are significant differences in the technical efficiency of each type of agriculture, namely, family farmers achieve 70% technical efficiency on average, while non-family farmers achieve 63% efficiency. For its part, a sustainable approach from public policies will make the sector more competitive at different scales, since each type of agriculture satisfies a different market, with a positive environmental and social impact.
