The traditional canals, being exposed to the environment, suffer deterioration over time between their mortar joints and the stone; Therefore, we propose to optimize the adhesion and compression resistance of the traditional mortar with gypsum or lime, through compressive stress tests with the gypsum or lime binding mortar and adhesion test evaluating the tensile stress by the Pull Off method. Mortars will be designed with weight doses of different gypsum and lime binders for the San Pedro de Casta community. According to the results of laboratory tests, considering three dosages of mixtures: traditional mortar and traditional mortar with lime and gypsum binder in doses by weight of 10%, 16%, and 22%, for each binder. Where it was obtained that the gypsum mortar with a dosage of 22% by weight increases the admissible compressive strength, exceeding the ultimate resistance of the traditional mortar by 106.7%, the same dosage also increases the ultimate tensile stress adhesion in comparison. with the traditional mortar by 197.8%, according to the E-080 standard. The cost of the plaster binder, compared to traditional mortar, is an additional 8.64%, which is not a significant increase in cost. Lime is more workable with traditional mortar and improves adhesion, while gypsum increases compression resistance but makes it more set.
