Motorcycles represent a rapidly growing trend each year, and this is reflected in the increase in traffic accidents they are involved in. In the first half of 2023, 17,153 smaller vehicles were involved in traffic accidents in Peru. Among these, the most common were motorbikes, with 10,603 (61.8%), followed by motocars (mototaxis) with 4,481 (26.1%), and bicycles with 466 (2.7%). According to the MTC study on black spots, the intersection of Av. Malecón Checa and Jr. Chinchaysuyo is identified as a high-accident concentration area. Consequently, it was necessary to study the area and the factors causing accidents, with support from field visits, checklists, condition diagrams, and collision data. Subsequently, countermeasures were proposed, such as the implementation and/or improvement of pedestrian crossings, signage, markings, exclusive lanes, among others. To validate the reduction of accidents at the intersection, the Linkage Matrix (ME) was used, which assesses the benefits/effects of the countermeasures based on their impact on vulnerable road users. The percentage of accident reduction for each countermeasure from the Safety Problem Catalog and Possible Countermeasures was obtained. The results obtained through the weighting matrix indicate a 63% reduction in motorcycle accidents, and a 60% improvement in road safety with the ViDA-iRAP software.
