Pollution in the air by the emission of greenhouse gases (mainly CO2) and on the soil by glass waste in the world are of great proportions. In the construction sector, large amounts of CO2 are emitted when making cement and its huge amounts of glass are discarded. In this study, we used glass powder to partial replace cement, due to the growth of the construction sector and, with it, the demand for concrete and, consequently, cement. Therefore, this work proposes an alternative to use glass powder as a partial replacement for cement in the manufacture of concrete blocks. Concrete mix designs were made with three proportions of glass powder (20%, 25% and 30) to determine the best proportion that maintains mechanical properties and select it. From this, the best percentage was chosen to made blocks adding glass powder and conventional blocks to analyze their characteristics and compare them. In addition to analyzing their properties, the cost of producing the blocks and concrete with glass powder was compared. Finally, the amount of CO2 that is reduced by reducing the use of fuel for the manufacture of less cement was calculated if glass were used as a partial replacement.
