Nowadays, the nonstop advertising drives people to make purchases not only for necessity, but as a way of entertainment, as a representation of status or as a synonym of momentary well-being. However, the consequences of excessive and irresponsible consumption have personal, social, environmental, and other repercussions. Therefore, it’s mandatory to rethink this issue and perform actions focused on ethical and responsible consumption. This work begins with a theoretical research exploring broad issues that allowed to contextualize in a better way the problems of consumption: advertising and its strategies, the consumer society, consumerism and other current problems around consumption, such as debts and the “throw-away culture”. Based on the analysis of these issues it was possible to lay out the project “Oveja Negra” which, based on graphic design, suggests a way to inform and empower young people to be more responsible consumers, self-sufficient and aware of their surroundings.
