Overweight and obesity are the main causes excessive energy consumption, lower fiber intake and decreased physical activity. Physical inactivity is the fourth risk factor most important mortality worldwide. An educational institution with adequate sports infrastructure for the implementation of physical activity in both academic schedules and recreation time, could improve normal body mass index. Objective: To determine the relationship between body mass index and level of physical activity in adolescents as sports infrastructure of educational institutions. Lima 2013. Design: Descriptive cross, observational, cross-sectional association. Participants: 460 students in 3rd, 4th and 5th year of high school, whose ages are between 14 and 18 years, the State Educational Institution Nº 1140 Aurelio Miro Quesada Sosa (n = 360), and Private College San Antonio Abad SCRL (n = 100). A sample of 166 adolescents, equally distributed in the two educational institutions, elected as mere random probability sampling was taken. Intervention: International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ short version) to classify them according to level of physical activity and weight and height to calculate body mass index for age and rank them according to their nutritional status were measured was applied. Main outcome measures: Body mass index, physical activity level, presence of sports infrastructure. Results: In both educational institutions, significant relationship between body mass index and physical activity level (p <0.05) was found but could not be concluded whether the presence of sports facilities improves nutritional status or level of physical activity , since in both institutions similar results were found. Conclusions: Although the relationship between body mass index and level of physical activity in adolescent school was found, the presence of sports infrastructure in your school ensures that no use.
