Abstract: El estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la actividad antibacteriana del enjuague bucal a base del extracto etanólico de Matricaria chamomilla l. (manzanilla) sobre Streptococcus mutans. Se elaboró extractos al 15%, 20% y 25% y enjuagues bucales a las mismas concentraciones, mediante la técnica de Kirby Bauer se determinó la actividad antibacteriana. Los resultados mostraron que Los extractos de manzanilla obtuvieron halos de 9,94 mm para el 15%, para el 20% de 11,01mm y 25% de 13,05mm, en los enjuagues bucales fue de 13,11mm; 13,52mm y 13,99mm para el 15%, 20% y 25% respectivamente, el control positivo (Listerine) presentó 14,86mm. Se concluyó que los extractos y enjuagues bucales de manzanilla presentan actividad antibacteriana contra Streptococcus mutans, la concentración del 25% tiene mayor actividad

The objective of the study was to determine the antibacterial activity of the mouthwash based on the ethanolic extract of Matricaria chamomilla l. (chamomile) on Streptococcus mutans. Extracts at 15%, 20% and 25% and mouthwashes at the same concentrations were prepared and the antibacterial activity was determined using the Kirby Bauer technique. The results showed that the chamomile extracts obtained halos of 9.94 mm for 15%, for 20% of 11.01 mm and 25% of 13.05 mm, in the mouthwashes it was 13.11 mm; 13.52 mm and 13.99 mm for 15%, 20% and 25% respectively, the positive control (Listerine) presented 14.86 mm. It was concluded that the chamomile extracts and mouthwashes present antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, the 25% concentration has greater activity against Streptococcus mutans
