Objective: To determine the frequency of extrinsic black stains and tooth decay in children of the I.E 21571 Ricardo Palma Soriano, 2018. Materials and Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional, observational and descriptive study was conducted. We evaluated 146 children from 6 to 11 years of age at the Ricardo Palma Soriano school, of which 56 were male and 90 were female. The CPOD-CEOD index was used to evaluate the caries and the Shourie classification to evaluate the extrinsic black pigmentations. The chi-square test was used considering a level of significance of p> 5%. Results: It was found that 35.6% of the children had extrinsic black pigmentations of which according to the Shourie classification, 23.3% were grade 2 and 12.3% were grade 3. In addition, 18.5% of the children had an index of low caries, 35.6% a moderate index and 45.9% a high caries index. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the frequency of black extrinsic pigmentations is low while the frequency of caries is high in the children of the Ricardo Palma Soriano school in the Barranca-Lima district.
