Rheumatoid Arthritis state of chronic inflammation would be an important factor associated with the metabolic syndrome as a higher frequency of the syndrome in these patients is observed with respect to healthy populations. His relationship with the prevalence of MS has not yet been fully elucidated. It has been suggested an association between inflammation characteristic of RA and the development process of MS, as well as a high incidence of MS in patients with pathology. Objectives: To determine if the metabolic syndrome is a factor associated with rheumatoid arthritis in patients from outpatient rheumatology at Regional Hospital of Trujillo the period January 2011 to December 2015. Material and Methods: An analytical study, observational, retrospective, case-control type was carried out. The study population consisted of 252 patients, of whom 84 patients had rheumatoid arthritis and 168 had no Rheumatoid Arthritis according to inclusion and exclusion criteria established divided into two groups: with and without metabolic syndrome. Results: Statistical analysis of the study variables as factors associated were: metabolic syndrome (OR: 1.77; p <0.05, Abdominal Obesity (OR: 2.79; p <0.05), high blood pressure (OR: 2.47; p <0.05) Glucose elevated fasting (OR: 2.30; p <0.05), high triglycerides (OR: 1.77; p <0.05), low HDL cholesterol (OR: 2.16; p <0.05). Conclusions: Metabolic syndrome is a factor associated with rheumatoid arthritis at Regional Hospital Trujillo.
