Objective: To determine if Family dysfunction is an associated factor to Depression in Age related macular degeneration patients. Method: This study corresponds to an observational, analytical cross-sectional design. We included 89 patients with diagnosis of Age related macular degeneration treated at Regional Ophthalmology Institute for 8 weeks, since Januarys 17 th to March 15 . Geriatric scale of Yesavage and Apgar familiar test were used to determine the presence of Depression an Family dysfunction, respectively. Results: In this investigation, from 89 patients, there is depression in 75 (85%) of them, while depression was not found in the remaining 14 (15%). From 75 patients with agerelated macular degeneration and depression, the presence of family dysfunction was found in 60 (80%) of them, while in the remaining 15 (20%) no; however, in those patients with age-related macular degeneration who did not present depression, it was found that 1 (7%) of them had family dysfunction and the remaining 13 (93%) were not present. A prevalence ratio equal to 1,836 was estimated with a CI of 95% (1,299 - 2,596) and with a value of p <0.01, indicating that there is an association between the study variables. Conclusions: Family dysfunction is a factor associated with depression in Age related macular degeneration patients. th
