Note: This research is quantitative, descriptive-correlational. It was carried out with the
objective of determining the relationship between the level of knowledge about
arterial hypertension and the practice of self-care in older adults of the Senior Adult
Program, City of God Health Center - 2019. The study population consisted of 91
people who are members the older adult program, and the sample of 41 people to
whom two questionnaires were applied, the first to determine the level of knowledge
about high blood pressure and the second to measure the practice of self-care. For
the statistical analysis, the Kendall Tau-b test will be considered, reaching the
following conclusions: that 61.0% (25) of older adults have adequate self-care
practices, 39.0% (16) have a level of knowledge high and 22.0% (9) medium
knowledge, likewise 39.0% (16) of older adults have inappropriate practices, 9.8%
(4) have a high level of knowledge, 19.4% (8) average level of knowledge and 9.8%
(4) low level of knowledge. Therefore, it is evidenced that the value of significance
is 0.001, and it is concluded that there is a significant relationship between self-care
practices and the level of knowledge.
