Varroosis is considered the main health problem of beekeeping worldwide. For its control, various acaricides are used, some of which are organic and have high efficacy, but there are few studies that demonstrate such efficacy under field conditions. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to determine the efficacy of thymol in the control of Varroosis in beehives of apiaries in 9 departments of Peru during the year 2021. To carry out this study, we worked with the records of the National Program for Varroosis Control developed by the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (SENASA). We worked with data from apiaries from nine departments of the country during the critical phases for annual beekeeping production: phase 1 (April - May) and phase 2 (September - October). The number of total, monitored and treated hives was quantified, as well as the average number of fallen varroas before and after the treatment with thymol. With this information, the rate of infestation by varroas at the beginning (TIVAi) and end (TIVAf) of the treatment was determined, as well as the efficacy of thymol in the treated hives. Statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were found between TIVAi (13.46%) and TIVAf (2.46%) of phase 1, and TIVAi (8.03%) and TIVAf (1.18%) of phase 2, while the efficacy of thymol in phase 1 and 2 was 85.79% and 88.31%, respectively. The results of the present study suggest that thymol is effective for the control of Varroosis under field conditions.
