Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune and systemic disease with pathognomonic signs and symptoms. It has been seen that depression, anxiety and psychosis are the most common mental disorders during the disease. It is known that depression has negative repercussions on adherence to treatment of chronic disease; however, antidepressant treatment in SLE responds favorably. This research aims to evaluate the presence of an association between the presence of depressive symptoms and its influence on treatment adherence in patients with SLE. Various variables such as age, marital status, educational level, socioeconomic level, polypharmacy, knowledge of the disease and quality of life were considered as variables that may influence treatment adherence. Direct surveys were conducted with 109 patients diagnosed with SLE, considering the inclusion criteria. No association was found between the presence of depressive symptoms and adherence to treatment. An association was found between the presence of polypharmacy and adherence to treatment in patients surveyed (p<0.001). In addition, it was possible to characterize the population and determine the presence of depressive symptom, as well as non-adherence to treatment. This research recommends investigating more about this variable and its influence on treatment adherence in patients with this pathology.
