Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a common pathology in clinical practice, being responsible for high treatment costs, and, being a complex disease, with multiple related factors and extensive symptoms, it was important to carry out an investigation of them that They will help us to discern and identify the clinical characteristics and risk factors, in order to carry out an early and adequate treatment. Methods: The quantitative, observational method was used, with a case-control, analytical, retrospective study; having as inclusion criteria: patients between the ages of 18 and 80, of both sexes, with and without the diagnosis of gastroesophageal reflux disease, who attended the Gastroenterology service of the Regional Hospital of Cusco, in the month of April to June of the 2023. As exclusion criteria we had patients with a diagnosis of neoplasia, hiatal hernia and pregnant patients. The sample was non-probabilistic of 320 patients, between 160 cases and 160 controls, through an anonymously validated survey and their prior consent and review of medical records authorized by the hospital. The statistical analysis of the data was carried out through the IBM SPSS ® v27 software and descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Results: Being a study of 320 patients between cases and controls, calculating an ORa: 2.77, 95% CI [1.31-5.86], p=0.00 < 0.05, we found that there is a relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease, and: the male sex and the (OR 3.58, P=0.04, CI=1.06-8.90), obesity (OR 3.09, P=0.01, CI=1.21-8.62), difficulty sleeping (OR 14.04, P=0.02, CI=2.36-55.19), sore throat (OR 6.12, P=0.01, CI=1.06-26.82), alcohol consumption (OR 3.98, P=0.01, CI =1.55-13.98), obstructive sleep apnea (OR 5.16, P=0.00, CI=1.23-30.60), fat intake (OR 5.92, P=0.01, CI=1.74- 20.59), coffee consumption (OR 4.44, P=0.00, CI=1.55-13.98), and poor physical activity (OR 3.27, P=0.01, CI=1.36- 9.84 ). Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease and the male sex, obesity, difficulty sleeping, pharyngeal pain, alcohol consumption, obstructive apnea, fat consumption, coffee consumption, deficient physical activity and heart disease.
