Determine if elevated alfafetoprotein has predictive value related to preterm delivery at Victor LazarteEchegaray Hospital. Methods: Was conduced a analitic, observational, retrospective, cases and controlsinvestigation. The study population was conformed for 120older pregnants women inclusion and exclusion criteries distributed in 2 groups: with or without preterm delivery. Results: We studied 120 aphthous pregnant women who were treated in gynecology service to which the alpha fetoprotein test was conducted in maternal serum in the hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray, the asociarsi no predictive value between elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein and preterm birth found that the frequency of elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein breast in patients with preterm delivery was 70 % and in aged pregnant women who had atérmino delivery was 18 %, respectively , finding one ( p < 0.01) (Table 3 ) , and a relative risk significantly > 1 ( 3.18 - 17.44 ) . Conclusions: Sensibility, especificity, positive and negative predictive value of alpafetoprotein to predict preterm delivery were 70%, 82%, 67% y 84%.Levels of elevated alfafetoprotein has value to predict preterm delivery.
