there are disputes over the impacts generated by extractive projects in communities or populations where their economic activities revolve around agriculture or livestock. This thesis studies the position against the social leaders and farmers of Valle del Tambo regarding the execution of the Tía María project. The thesis bases its analysis on the study of bibliographic material and interviews conducted with stakeholders, including farmers, social leaders of Valle del Tambo, representatives and workers of the Southern Peru Copper Corporation (SPCC), state institutions, journalists and members of buses in the city of Arequipa. This thesis evidences a logic of influence centered on motivations, interests, support and support that generate in the position of the leaders and farmers of Valle del Tambo a consolidation of their participation and incidence in the public space. In this sense, the research suggests that the position against farmers and social leaders stems from an agricultural social identification, which motivates said actors to search for both economic and intellectual resources to participate and influence the dynamics of the conflict. These motivations fall on factors such as the company's background, the negative impacts on the environment, on the health of the population, and the errors of the company's communication policy during the socioenvironmental conflict.
