In Peru, buildings are constantly affected by seismic movements. Precisely, the city of Lima is located in the so-called “ring of fire”, the city presents a great seismic risk due to its historic buildings from the colonial era. That is why the use of reinforcement systems in existing buildings has the main objective of prolonging the useful life of the structures according to the client's needs and structural demands. The rehabilitation of a building is not limited to critical situations; It can be carried out even when the structure is in good condition, for example to adapt it to new loads due to a change in use. Key objectives include fixing problems in concrete and improving its mechanical properties to ensure better performance against events such as earthquakes or other loads such as gravity. If the original mechanical properties of the structure are compromised, there is a risk of failure that could endanger the people using it. Therefore, it is essential to carry out a detailed study to determine if the structure can be reinforced and, if so, choose the appropriate system for that specific case. The thesis will analyze various reinforcement systems, such as column casing, placement of non-existing columns and plates. Each system will be carefully examined, considering its mechanical properties, advantages and disadvantages, construction procedures. This detailed analysis is essential for engineering professionals to make informed decisions about how to reinforce existing buildings.
