The household method is an indirect method for the determination of copper (Cu2 +) in concentrate samples, which is achieved by the redox reaction between thiosulfate and elemental iodine according to equation (15) that has previously reacted with copper which it is detailed in equation (14). 2Cu(CH3COO)2 (aq) +4KI (aq)2CuI (aq)+I2(aq) + 4CH3COOK (aq) …(14) 2Na2S2O3.5H2O(aq) + I2(aq) 2NaI(aq) + Na2S4O6(aq) + 10H2O(aq) …(15) Achieving excellence in the management of a laboratory implies being able to accredit it in international standards, which allows to generate trust in the client, in such a way that the chemical analyzes carried out in the laboratory are suitable, for this it is demonstrated that the chemical laboratory of SGS-Toromocho where I worked as assistant laboratory manager meets the requirements of ISO-IEC 17025: 2017: • Method SGS-LT-ME-03 “Determination of copper by redox volumetry in concentrate samples” was validated, evaluating the accuracy, veracity and range of the method. • The personnel in charge of the analyzes were trained and evaluated, granting them proof of authorization so that they can use the method, in such a way that it is guaranteed to have the qualified personnel for the development of the analyzes. • The quality assurance is complied with by monitoring the process through the control charts, which allow us to evaluate if there are anomalies in the process to be able to correct them. • There is a compliance program for the maintenance of the equipment, which guarantees us to have equipment in good operating conditions, to avoid having unexpected failures in the equipment that generate unscheduled corrective maintenance, which should be avoided because they can stop the processes. • There is an equipment calibration compliance program in such a way that allows us to be sure that the measurements made to the equipment are correct. • The verification of the balances was carried out with activities such as leveling the balance, with the use of known and certified standard weights, as well as controlling the environmental conditions of the balance room such as temperature and relative humidity, all in order to guarantee that the balance makes correct measurements. The main activity of the Chinalco Peru Company (Toromocho Mining Project) is the production of copper concentrate with cups of 1800 metric tons per day, 54,000 metric tons per month that make an annual production of 648,000 metric tons of copper concentrate with a law average of 20% to 30% of copper grade, which are transported by rail to the port of Callao to
