In countries such as Peru, which is located in a highly seismic zone, the prediction and identification of potential damages in life lines, caused by the movement of the earthquake, can allow us to estimate economic and social losses, as in the case of the 2007 Pisco earthquake. This thesis refers to the estimation of damages in potable water pipes, expressed by empirical functions (denominated in the thesis functions of vulnerability and fragility), which relate the rates of repairs or breaks per unit of pipeline and seismic indexes such as the peak ground velocity (PGV) and the peak ground deformation (PGD). This thesis begins with the analysis of the seismic behaviour of the pipes (continuous and segmented), identifying the damages generated in those, as well as the threat to which they are subjected, whether they are permanent soil deformations (DPS) such as landslides, liquefaction and settlements, or transient soil deformations (DTS) referred to the propagation of surface waves. The empirical functions that could be found in the literature, identifying a noticeable difference in the information considered by each approach, which is reflected in the different values of repair or breakage rates for the same seismic index. For the identification of a function that best represents the analysis in a given territory, matrices were created to describe the characteristics of the functions, as well as the information that intervened in their creation. An application is made of the use of the matrices created in the district of Imperial in Cañete, as well as the analysis of the results. Finally, the conclusions and recommendations for the use and interpretation of the templates are presented, and the empirical functions for the estimation of the damages in the potable water pipes.
