The present research was based on the development and improvement in many aspects of natural adhesives from starch. Nowadays, the industries, paper, paperboard and others that require this kind of eco-friendly adhesives, are becoming increasingly demanding in terms of adhesive properties and above all costs. It is for this reason that among the alternatives for continuous improvement in the development of starch-based adhesives, it wasdecided to pay close attention to the preparation of dextrins, products of starch hydrolysis, using a natural catalyst: thermostable alpha-amylase enzyme generally used in the baking process. Enzymatic hydrolysis requires certain characteristics to be carried out, operating conditions that must be respected, if you want to achieve products of very good quality, the same, which is based on characteristics (pH, viscosity, % nonvolatile solids, etc.) that provide functionality and efficiency during the gluing process. Among the process parameters that have been taken into account are the working pH of the enzyme, the reaction temperature, the reaction time; to obtain suitable properties such as viscosity, pH, % of non-volatile solids, drying time, storage time, etc. The difference of the type of hydrolysis used in the present investigation, with respect to the traditional methods, is evidenced notably in subjects such as handling and control of operating conditions, better quality of product.
