OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between anxiety or depression with the quality of sleep in students of the Medical School of the Andean University of Cusco. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Correlational, prospective, cross-sectional and observational study. The general data of the participants were collected. Two validated surveys were used to assess sleep quality (PQSI) and anxiety and depression (DASS 21). Data were processed using the SPSS statistical package for univariate and bivariate analysis. RESULTS: The frequency of anxiety is 75.1%; depression is 68.77% and poor sleep quality is 81.82% among the students of the Medical School of the Andean University of Cusco. There is a statistically significant relationship between anxiety and sleep quality (OR=5.294, 95% CI [2.686-10.435], p = 0.000), and between depression and sleep quality (OR=5.356, 95% CI [2.719-10.552], p = 0.000) CONCLUSION: Anxiety and depression are risk factors for poor quality sleep
