The objective of the present work was to determine the in vitro antibacterial effect of ethanolic extracts of Chenopodium ambrosioides L "Paico" and Schinus molle "Molle" leaves against Staphylococcus aureus. The microbiological assay performed was by the Kirby-Bauer method with diffusion discs in Mueller Hinton Agar. For this assay, 10 replicates were used with discs labeled A, Chenopodium ambrosioides extract at 500 mg/mL; B, Schinus molle extract at 500 mg/mL; C, mixture of both extracts (1:1) at 500 mg/mL; D, Ciprofloxacin 5 µg and E, distilled water. The results in phytochemical screening showed that both ethanolic extracts present metabolites such as: flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and alkaloids. Conclusions: It was demonstrated that the ethanolic extract of Chenopodium ambrosioides L "Paico" leaves at 50% does not present antibacterial effect; comparable with the ethanolic extract of Schinus molle "Molle" leaves and the ethanolic extracts of both botanical species at 50% that did present antibacterial effect in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus
