This paper explores the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and the proposal for sustainable development. By virtue of this, the article focuses on three aspects: the theoretical conceptualization of sustainable development, which arises from the demands of a society plagued by environmental deterioration, which demanded forceful actions to stop the adverse effects of industrialization. In response, the World Conservation Union, the Brundtland Report (CMMAD, 1987), Agenda 21 (Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992), and the World Summit in Johannesburg in 2002, helped shape the definition of sustainable development managed so far. 2) The proposal for Corporate Social Responsibility, which has antecedents in the 19th century, but it is not until the 20th century, along with the advances in sustainable development, that it enters the academic and managerial scene, postulating a new vision of the company, with social relevance, adapting to the demands of a more conscious society, without losing sight of the need for sustainable production and growth. 3) Corporate Social Responsibility in interrelation with the objectives of sustainable development, representing the opportunity to materialize the responsibility of companies with the environment and the community. It concludes on the importance of awareness regarding globalization and its adverse effects on life on the planet, as well as the need for companies to act responsibly in the face of this phenomenon.
