Objective: Compare the practice of tooth brushing according to academic stress in the period of virtual classes due to COVID-19, in university students in Lima, Peru. Materials and methods: The study was observational, cross-sectional and analytical. The population was made up of university students from Metropolitan Lima. A total of 328 university students were surveyed through a questionnaire, which contained multiple-choice questions to evaluate the practice of tooth brushing. The SISCO Inventory was used to measure academic stress. The univariate analysis was through absolute and relative frequencies. For the bivariate, the Chi square test and Student's t-test were used to compare brushing practice with academic stress, as well as with covariates, with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: Significant differences were found between the frequency of tooth brushing and academic stress (p=0.007), but not with daily tooth brushing and its thoroughness. Regarding dental brushing practices, the majority of university students reported performing this habit daily, 2 or more times a day, and more than half indicated poor/regular brushing thoroughness. Conclusions: There are significant differences in the frequency of tooth brushing according to the academic stress of university students.
