The objective of this work was to determine the general (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) of hard yellow corn (Zea mays L.) in the district of La Molina in the 2004 campaign. The eleven inbreeding lines from the International Corn and Wheat Center CIMMYT were selected with an tester . The characteristics studied were grain yield, plant height, corncob height and days of male flowering. The genotypes were evaluated under the 8x8 triple lattice design. The genetic material was constituted by 52 simple hybrids, six experimental double hybrids and six commercial hybrids. The analysis of the GCA and SCA was carried out with 36 simple hybrids product of nine lines, the method IV of Griffing, model I, was applied, analyzing only the direct crosses. In the analysis of the diallelic crosses it was determined that the GCA was more significant for plant and corncob height and the SCA was significant for all characteristics. Line seven expressed the highest GCA for grain yield, as well, this line when combined with other lines of low GCA expressed the best grain yield. The highest SCA was present in the crossings 9x18, 9x12 y 7x2. In Conclusion, there is a high probability that the line seven can show a high grain yield and be used inbreeding programs
