Plant species have a chemical richness, where a great interest is concentrated in their study. The present investigation aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity in vitro of two Amazonian species of the genus Calathea by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) from the Peruvian Amazon. Organ samples of plant species collected for convenience: leaves, peeled tuber and tuber peel, subsequently dried at 40 ° C and micropulverized for the preparation of methanolic extracts (macerated for 7 days). Solutions of the samples to be evaluated were prepared at concentrations of 4, 8, 16, 32 and 50 mg / mL and for DPPH at a concentration of 0.1 mMol. The reading was carried out in UV / vis spectrometer equipment at 517 nm. The results obtained for Calathea lutea Schult leaves an IC50=66.02 mg/mL; for Calathea allouia (Aubl.) Lindl. Shelled tuber an IC50=526.12 mg/mL and for Calathea allouia (Aubl.) Lindl. tuber peel an IC50=12542893216 mg/mL. Regarding the ability to react with the stable free radical DPPH, the IC50 that was obtained was lower in the Calathea lutea Schult leaf; and it is concluded that the leaves exhibit a higher antioxidant capacity compared to Calathea allouia (Aubl.) Lindl. Shelled tuber and tuber peel respectively.
