INTRODUCTION: Neonatal mortality is a public health problem in many developing countries, in our country the department of Loreto has the highest rate of adolescent pregnancy, fertility, prematurity, and a high rate of maternal and neonatal mortality, so the present study Its purpose is to identify the maternal and neonatal factors associated with neonatal mortality, and thus to recognize them in a timely manner for an adequate management of the neonate and to reduce the neonatal mortality rate. OBJECTIVE: To determine the maternal and neonatal factors associated with neonatal mortality at Hospital III Iquitos - EsSalud, 2017 - 2019. METHODOLOGY: The present study is of a quantitative, descriptive, crosssectional, retrospective, analytical case-control type, the sample size will not be taken through formula, the cases will be all neonatal deaths that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria; and controls will be live neonates that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria through simple random sampling; twice as many controls as cases will be considered. RESULTS: Once the approval of the academic work has been obtained, the evaluation and permission will be requested from the Research Committee and Ethics Committee of Hospital III Iquitos - Essalud; the collection of information will be from a secondary source, the histories of mothers and newborns will be reviewed, which will be recorded in the instrument. The information collected will be entered into a database with the SPSS 21.0 software, first descriptive statistics will be applied, presenting the results in univariate frequency tables and graphs; In addition, it will use contingency table (bivariate) to determine the odds ratio values with their 95% confidence intervals where it will be determined if the independent variable is a risk factor for neonatal mortality. CONCLUSION: The conclusions will be obtained according to the results.
