The objective of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a learner-training program based on comics to improve third year primary school students’ reading skills at República de Venezuela School, Iquitos 2018. The type of research is evaluative and the design is fieldwork, contemporary prospective, univariable, quasi experimental with control group, pre-test and post-test. 117 students and a non-probabilistic sample of 63 made up the population. The data-gathering tool was a valid and reliable reading comprehension test. Results show that the experimental group outperformed the control group, as their average score was higher after the learner-training program (13.66 > 11.74) as well as in the subskills: literal comprehension (15.44 > 13.42), inferential comprehension (14.47 > 12.16), and critical comprehension (10.88 > 9.65). It is concluded that the learner-training program based on comics improves significantly the population students’ reading skills, accepting the research hypothesis as p-value = 0.000 < α = 0.05.
