Nowadays it has become very common to see how people prefer to spend their free time in front of a TV screen, especially children, this leads to them being constantly watching advertisements of all kinds of sales offers, where children and teenagers They are the main objective of these big industries for the ease of persuasion. Given this fact it was necessary to see the influence of television advertising on eating habits and its effect on nutritional status. A descriptive correlational study was carried out. Validated surveys were applied to 107 school children from the 4th to 6th grade of primary school of I.E.I.P.M N ° 60013 JOSE ABELARDO QUIÑONES G., to determine the eating habits and the influence of television advertising; In addition, the nutritional status of schoolchildren was evaluated by performing the anthropometric weight and height measurements to calculate the body mass index (BMI). It was found that the consumption of carbohydrates is 67.3% consumption of 3 to 4 dishes of rice or noodles per day, 60.7% eat less than 3 glasses of milk or yogurt and cheese portion daily and 50.5% ingests less than 2 prey of meat / day; 72.0% do not consume vegetables, 34.6% eat fruits 3 times daily, only 10.3% consume 3 to 4 times a week. On the other hand, 60.8% of schoolchildren said that watching television is their main recreational activity, and 75.7% watch television between 1 to 4 hours a day, 64.5% frequent eating food while watching television, but 63.6% almost always watch television ads about food, according to 65.4% of school children it is easy to buy the food advertised on television. The majority of the students present a normal nutritional status (80.4%); but in a lower percentage, schoolchildren were found to be thin (9.3%) or overweight (8.4%). The study concluded that the products advertised on television generate a high impact on the choice of food in schoolchildren.
