In recent times, biodiesel produced from used frying oils is gaining wide acceptance not only because it is a low-cost raw material that is generated daily in homes and food establishments, but also because of the negative effects that it has been causing in the environment due to its inadequate final disposal. The objective of this work was to obtain biodiesel from used fried oils generated in fast food establishments in the city of Iquitos. The previously used frying oil underwent a pretreatment that consisted of decantation, filtration and drying to eliminate impurities, then it was characterized by the parameters of humidity, acid index, density, viscosity, peroxide index and saponification index. . To obtain the biodiesel, an alkaline transesterification reaction was carried out using methanol as alcohol and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as catalyst. An experimental design 23 was applied, having as studied variables: oil / methanol molar ratio (1 / 6.1 / 9), reaction time (30 and 60 minutes) and catalyst concentration (0.5% and 1%). It was found that the variable with the greatest effect on the biodiesel yield was the catalyst concentration, obtaining the highest yield (90.17%) at a low concentration (0.5%). The biodiesel obtained presented good density and viscosity characteristics.
