The strategy of the debate is a pertinent tool to develop the argumentation and the criticality in the students of the secondary level in the competition "participates in public matters to promote the common good". Develops skills such as research, synthesis, problem solving, oratory, security, collaborative work, empathy, tolerance and interpersonal relationships. The use of the debates in the various models is a resource that promotes critical thinking in students in the face of public affairs and seeks solutions to seek the common good. This research applies the strategy of the debate as a teaching-learning tool to promote active participation, discussion, argumentative capacity and criticality in secondary-level students in the face of public affairs. And be critical and agents of change in the face of various problems. It also does not only develop cognitive, but social, personal and interpersonal capacities. At present it is a highly valued and used resource in the institutions of the upper and basic level at national and international level.
