Giant squid precooking water is a resource that is often misused, from its disposal as wastewater to its disposal in receiving marine bodies, affecting them negatively. This precooking water contains soluble components (e.g., peptides, nucleotides, etc.) that can be used in water treatments through the culture of various species of microalgae. This research aimed at the growth analysis of the microalgae Chlorella sp. in the culture media obtained from the precooking water of the squid mantle. Cell density was quantified by counting methods (cel/mL) and dry biomass was calculated by dry weight (mg/mL); the Chlorella sp. (IMG-BG-020) strain was used and it was cultivated in volumes of 7 L in a 1:1 ratio of microalgae culture and water of precooking of the mantle of giant squid for 8 days, taking as variables to evaluate the temperature, pH, speed growth (µ), doubling time (TD) and the proportion of nutrients (nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and phosphates) consumed. The culture of the microalgae in the precooking water of the squid mantle got a cell density and dry biomass of 81.07 ± 7.12 cel/mL x 106 y 0.31 ± 0.0173 mg/mL, respectively. The concentration of nitrates was constant, while the ammonium values increased until the end of the experiment, however in the other hand the concentration of nitrites and phosphates decreased in 55% and 43%, respectively; being this nutrients related to the increase of density and dry biomass. In conclusion the precooking water of the squid mantle prepared for this study at 50% is a suitable media to use in the culture of this Chlorella specie.
