ABSTRACT The present research work has as general objective to know the influence of the improvement of the design and distribution of plant in the production costs of the workshop of the company CATSOL SRL. The development of the work was done with information obtained from the company through the analysis of historical information, an interview with the manager and direct observations of the production process, the results of which were analyzed and processed to make a situational diagnosis of the plant. The areas of the plant and their distribution, the production times, the cycle, the displacement and their costs were determined, and the lighting was also evaluated to the plant and its collaborators through the IPERC to the company and the method OWAS. The situational diagnosis showed that the design and distribution of the plant presented areas with poorly defined spaces, crowded, saturated with raw material and products in the process of manufacturing, finished and for maintenance, poor management of unsafe materials and installations that caused high costs of production. With the application of the proposal, the displacement distances would reduce by 28%, equivalent to 21,87m per unit batch of production of the three products, resulting in a savings in displacement costs of S/.876,32 nuevos soles per year. The cost of production would reduce to 9%, equivalent to S/.3 474,60 per unit production lot and S/.145 238,80 new soles per production batches of the three products in one year.
