This research study was conducted with farmers in rural communities of the Alto Cunas in the Junín Region. The objective of the study was to describe and analyze how small farmers in the Alto Cunas trained through the Farmer-to-Farmer methodology make decisions to adopt the biol technology and use it in their main crops. The study analyzed the influence of the “Farmer-to-Farmer” methodology in the adoption process, compared to conventional methods (external expertise). The methodology included five study groups: Group 1 consisted of 24 farmers who were trained by the Farmer-to-Farmer methodology (4-6 training sessions); Group 2: comprised of 26 farmers who were trained by the Farmer-to-Farmer methodology (only 1-3 sessions); Group 3: composed of 25 farmers who did not receive training under the above-mentioned methodology but used the biol technology; Group 4: consisted of 25 farmers who were trained under the conventional methodology and Group 5: composed of 25 farmers who did not receive any training. Research results showed that, based on chi-square analysis, there was a statistically significant association between the explanatory variables and the adoption of biol. Additional findings suggested that farmers that participated in the entire Farmer-to-Farmer training process had higher rates of adoption. Moreover, farmers who participated only partially in the Farmer-to-Farmer training process showed lower adoption rates. An important result was that those farmers that did not participate in any training showed higher adoption than those who partially participated in the process. Important factors that influenced the training process were communication strategies during training, diffusion mechanisms and the interpersonal relationship established between field staff and farmers
