Adolescence is one of the most critical periods for the development of self and family is part of training adolescent because he learns to cope and to establish social relationships and communication that will help you learn more and to form their personal identity. This study entitled "Level of self-esteem and its relationship to family characteristics of high school students. Daniel Alcides Carrión educational institution in 2010, with the aim of determining the level of self-esteem of adolescents 3 of high school and their relationship to family characteristics. The study is quantitative, descriptive, crosssectional, population consisted of 120 adolescents from 3 of secondary educational institution Daniel Alcides Carrión. The technique used was the survey and instruments used were the self esteem test Cirilo Toro Vargas and a questionnaire on family characteristics.The 70.83% of teens surveyed have high positive self-esteem and 66.7% live in families with functional characteristics. With regard to the relationship of self-esteem and family characteristics, the formula was applied chi-square statistic that shows that there is no statistical relationship between variables (P = 0.20). It is therefore concluded that the level of self-esteem does not depend entirely on the characteristics of the family.
