This research project called Structural Reinforcement of Ruth multifamily housing, located in the district of Santiago de Surco, Lima 2019, was carried out with the objective of determining whether it can support the expansion of 2 more levels. For this determination a structural evaluation of the existing housing was carried out to determine the current state and if it is optimal to resist an extension. The verification of existing steel was performed, verification of existing structural elements as well as beams columns and walls that are in accordance with the design of the existing plan. The resistance of all the existing columns was verified with a sclerometry test, the wall density, and the existing structure was modeled for seismic analysis based on the parameters of Standard E-030. With the model carried out, the verification of the load capacity of all the existing columns was elaborated and finally the dimensions of the most loaded existing shoe were verified. For the reinforcement two structural systems proposals were developed: Dual System and Structural Wall System. In order to obtain a suitable system for reinforcement, modeling both structural systems to analyze them seismically and following the requirements of the E.030 Seismic Resistance Standard. In addition, it was proposed to reduce the weight of the structure with the structural system chosen to reinforce, placing unconventional materials that are lighter than conventional ones. When modeling the structure again with unconventional materials, there was a significant reduction in weight. With this reduction in weight we achieve that the existing shoes do not need reinforcement.
