The general objective of this research was to increase the profitability of an aluminum foundry by reducing the costs of the manufacturing process of aluminum molds for shoe soles. To achieve this goal, there were proposed some improvements in Production and Logistics, which are two critical areas according to the analysis. In first place, the current state of these two areas was described and analyzed to identify the problematic points and their root causes with the help of Ishikawa Diagram. Later, we focused the efforts in the most urgent causes. The tools identified to achieve the increase in profitability were: Study of Times, Line Balance, MRP II, classification and storage of materials by the ABC method and Reorder Point. The results that were achieved after the applied methodology were: • Meet the monthly demand by reducing 100% of overtime. • Balance the line and increase the production capacity by 107%. • Through the standardization of the use of materials, the cost for this concept was reduced by 3%. • It was possible to meet the monthly demand by 98%. • Unproductive hours due to lack of materials were reduced by 100%. The impact on profitability at the end of the fifth year of the implementation of the improvement proposal is an increase of 70 percent. The ROI f this project is 77%, while the Net Present Value amounts to S /. 39,670.00, ratifying the economic viability of the proposal. In addition, thanks to the Benefit / Cost rate, it is known that for each PEN invested in this project, a benefit of 0.14 cents will be received.
