Objectives: Describe and compare hemodynamic and Biochemistay features and use of blood components in patients who received acute normovolemic haemodilution (ANH) and autologous blood with patients who received homologous blood transfusion in patients who were operated of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) in Naval Medical Center. Material and Methods: A comparative study was designed 103 patients were included programmed in elective form in two independent groups: 46 subjects received (ANH) and autotransfusion; 57 subjects received homologous blood transfusion. This study was made between the 1st of January 1998 and the 31st of July 2003. All statistical analisis were performed with the use of SPSS 12 Software. The Chi Square Test was use for nominal data ANOVA Test for numerical variable and Levene Test for homogenize of variance when it distribution was not normal non parametric U Test of Mann-Whitney was vied. Results: The median age of (ANH) group was 62.8± 8.8 years; those who received homologous transfusion were 67.3±9.9 years. In the (ANH) group the basal blood pressure average was 96.50 ± 1.79 mmHg and after 30 minutes were 88.91 ± 1.38 mmHg, there were statistically significant difference. In immediate postoperative period those who received (ANH) had a grater hematocrito and hemoglobin 11,44 ±0,20 gr/dl than those without hemoditution: 10.45±0.20. For the blood components, the units utilized were greater in those with homologous blood transfusion. The average of blood transfusion in (ANH) group were 1 ± 0.5 per patient and 2 ± 1.5 in those with homologous blood transfusion group. Conclusion: The ANH is a well tolerated technique in patients who go through coronary artery bypass graft it is safe, effective and reduce the use of homologous blood transfution.
