The present research shows the relationship that emotional intelligence has with leadership styles, in this case, in the operational forces’ officers of the Peruvian Navy. In this sense, different problem edges are identified, such as the scarce scientific literature, specifically in the military field, and the lack of these works in the Peruvian Navy. For this, national and international backgrounds are reviewed, the study variables are defined, a development is made on the different theories, approaches, and styles that these concepts present; to then determine the best instruments to collect the data needed for research. The study was of a cross-sectional, descriptive correlational, non-experimental design; 118 valid assessments of the 5 operational forces officers of the Peruvian Navy were obtained as a sample. The Peruvian adjustment of the Emotional Quotient Inventory by Ugarriza (2003) was used for the emotional intelligence variable, and the Multifactorial Leadership Questionnaire 5X-Short (Bass & Avolio, 2004) for the leadership styles variable. It is concluded that there is a direct correlation between emotional intelligence with the transformational leadership style, at a low level (p=0.002, rs=0.284), and with the transactional leadership style, at a moderate level (p=0.000, rs =0.585), there being no correlation between emotional intelligence and laissez-faire leadership style (p=0.080).
