This qualitative research systematizes a teaching experience of contemporary dance improvisation at an academic level, a subject taught for the first time in Peruvian University, after the creation of a professional dance conservatory. It seeks contributing to the development of teaching the new dance discipline in our environment. The work compiles, records and analyzes the experience carried out in the Improvisation I and II courses (2013-2018). The methodology used is the Systematization of Experiences (SE). The information was collected through documents and interviews, analyzed using a qualitative approach, observed from three categories: recapitulation of material taught, teaching factor and the course’s achievements. A recount of the topics covered in the courses is made, reflecting on their effect on the students. 5 Recommendations are proposed for the teaching of improvisation at the university, considering the students as an active agent, promoting the analysis of their own work (exploration, findings, and research). These parameters are compared with those of other similar schools. The main findings refer to the recognition of the subject as an important axis of contemporary dance education, in which students understand and apply the subject, recognizing coincidences with other professional schools and the path taken. The researcher contributes with the experience gathered from her experimental artistic work carried out with Ballet San Marcos (2000-2010), the Asociación Cultural Danza Lima (1985-2000) and the improvisation techniques practiced in Trudy Kressel's Modern Dance Group between 1964 and 1971
