This paper explores two different translations of Gabriela, cravo e canela, a novel written by the Brazilian Jorge Amado, with the purpose of examining the relation among the method, the translations techniques and their application in proper nouns. The research applies a descriptive and correlational methodology through a comparative design. The study collected 116 words as a representative sample to validate the hypothesis that exist a direct correlation among method, techniques and the proper nouns translation. Through a qualitative research, the gathered information is analyzed to compare the translation method and techniques according with the proper nouns translation theories of Moya, Mayoral and Franco, among others. The research study revealed that it exists a direct symmetric relation among the domesticating method, conservation techniques and the characters and religious nouns, and religious institution nouns. Moreover it exists a multiple correlation among foreignisation method, substitution techniques, fiction nouns, and private and public institutions.
