The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between three variables: number of nutritional counseling, dietary practices and presence of iron deficiency anemia in children between 6 and 12 months, who attended the Maternal and Child Health Center "El Progreso" -Carabayllo since May 2016 to October 2017. This research is of descriptive level of application type and its design is non-experimental cross-sectional, the sample was non-probabilistic made up of 39 mothers who attended in their gestation stage to the health center "El Progreso". 25.6% were mothers for the second time and 74.4% were new mothers, of which 76.9% were young pregnant women. 38.5% received more than expected from the number of nutritional counseling scheduled from the gestation stage, 35.9% received what was expected and 25.6% received less than expected. 48.7% of mothers obtained a good level of alimentary practices, 20.5% of mothers obtained a regular level and 30.8% of mothers obtained a bad level. 46.2% of children under one year of age, children of study mothers did not present anemia, 25.6% had mild anemia and 28.2% had moderate anemia. The ordinal regression test was applied to know the association of the number of counseling and the presence of anemia and this same variable with food practices. It is concluded that there is a relationship between the number of counseling and the presence of anemia, as well as anemia with eating practices.
