This descriptive study investigates the determinants of reading habits in fifth grade students in a private institution in Carabayllo. The survey applied to 230 students highlights the crucial influence of family environment, teacher support, reading frequency and reading self-concept. A favorable family environment and teacher support are essential for the development of the reading habit. Consistency in reading practice, evident in reading frequency, plays a vital role. In addition, the student's perception of himself as a reader affects his willingness and motivation to read. These results provide detailed insight and constitute a basis for designing effective educational interventions to foster the reading habit. By considering the importance of the family environment, teacher support, reading time, and reading self-perception, programs can be developed that contribute to the strengthening of competent readers at this important stage of learning.
